Dan Zanes & Claudia Eliaza Kidsí Concert

Friday Kids' Concert

Grammy Award-winner Dan Zanes and Claudia Eliaza have an exuberant family concert that appeals as much to adults as it does to children.

“The gold standard in kids music…” - NPR
“Dan Zanes’ concerts are always cause for celebration…” - The New York Times

The duo will bring their highly interactive family show to New Jersey’s premier family entertainment attraction when they open the 37th annual QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning in Association with PNC Bank live concert series on Friday afternoon, July 26 at 1:30 p.m.

Their critically-acclaimed music has been featured on Sesame Street, Playhouse Disney, Nickelodeon, HBO Family, and Sprout. Over the course of 15 albums, 2 DVDs, 2 picture books and dozens of videos, Zanes has collaborated with Lou Reed, Natalie Merchant, Carol Channing, Sharon Jones, Bob Weir, Debbie Harry, Roseanne Cash and many more.

Zanes occupies a unique place in American music. He is the former lead singer of The Del Fuegos, a 1980s garage-style rock band which enjoyed a short run of success including Rolling Stone naming them one of the best new bands of 1984. But when the decade ended, so did the band.

After he became a father in 1994, Dan began creating music that he and his daughter could enjoy together as a shared experience. Rocket Ship Beach became an immediate hit with families and NPR called him “The gold standard in kid’s music.”

Today, sea shanties, English Music hall, play party songs, the spirit of early rock-n-roll, soul, North American and West Indian folk music all collide when he takes the stage. Audiences dance and sing along in what can be described as a casual --- and subversively educational --- party atmosphere. They’ll perform Dan’s greatest hits as well as folk and blues classics from their popular new songbook Dan Zanes’ House Party! A Family Roots Music Treasury, as well as selections from their Kennedy Center commissioned folk opera, Night Train 57, that appeal to audiences of all ages.

Haitian-American jazz vocalist Claudia Eliaza is also a board certified music therapist. Her background has given the pair additional ways to find meaningful community connections in reaching a diverse audience.

“We’re thrilled to once again open the festival with our kid’s concert series,” said Festival Executive Producer Howard Freeman. “When we first had Laurie Berkner perform two years ago, we saw right away that we had found a new way for families to start their day at the festival. Having a dedicated concert for children ages 2-8 with Dan and Claudia will definitely add to a family’s enjoyment and their experience with us.”
